Punjab Closed January 28: Following the incident involving Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s statue in Amritsar, protests break out in Punjab. Major social organizations join the bandh call as Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara, and Moga announce a complete shutdown on January 28.

The situation has heated up since the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar statue on Sri Amritsar Sahib’s Heritage Street was broken. Numerous social organizations, especially the Valmiki community, are furious over this tragedy. In protest of this, closures have been called for in a number of Punjabi districts. Information indicates that on January 28, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara, and Moga would all be closed.

A bandh in Phagwara has also been declared, in addition to the one that was previously planned for January 28 in Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Guru Ravidas, Bhagwan Valmiki, Dr. Ambedkar Sabha, and Ambedkar Sena Mool Niwasi have urged their followers to assemble at Ambedkar Park in Hargobind Nagar by 10 a.m. in Phagwara. The decision has also been made to shut down the Moga district entirely.
